HAPPPY MONDAY! I hope everyone is enjoying their long weekend!
This list is one of my favorites from the archives of the old blog. I had to repost it, as it’s actually a list I refer back to often! In my experience, it’s so much EASIER to get stuck in a bad mood and stay there. I hope you make the effort to take some of these steps when you need a mindset refresh or just some more positivity in your day.
- OPEN THOSE CURTAINS – LET THE SUNSHINE IN!
sunshine=happiness. do you ever open up your curtains and notice the huge difference it makes on your mood and your productivity? sunshine motivates me!
- TURN ON THE TUNES
put your itunes shuffle to good use or get over to pandora and find an upbeat station to bust you out of a funk. my favorite right now is “90s Pop Radio”. N’SYNC and BSB anyone?!
- FLIP THROUGH A PHOTO ALBUM
this can be a physcial album full of memories with your family + friends or a vision board created on Pinterest, but there is nothing like positive images to boost your mood.
- TAKE A POWER NAP
really. sometimes 20 minutes of a quick recharge is all you need to reset your mood and in turn, help you revisit your goals with fresh eyes and a fresh mind once you wake.
- SOAK IN A WARM BATH
there should be no special occasion for indulging in a bath. i encourage everyone to take a bubble bath in the middle of the day. you will find yourself relaxed and recharged in minutes.
- GO OUTSIDE
it goes without saying that nature heals. even 15 minutes outside leaves your mind in a better place. get up and take a walk around the building. can’t get out? scroll through nature photos.
- BREATHE IN SOME MINT
peppermint oil does wonders for boosting your mood. a few drops anywhere on your body does the trick. no oils? popping a peppermint has similar effects. keep a stash at your desk.
the physical act of smiling does so much for tricking your mind. go ahead. try it. yes, you just smilied at your screen like a fool, but if you are like me, you also busted up laughing.
- EAT SOME CHOCOLATE
dark chocolate, that is. it is an acquired taste, but you can rest assured that it’s mood-boosting properties are at work and you don’t have to feel the guilt of indulging in less-healthy options.
- COUNT YOUR BLESSINGS
nothing puts things into perspective like being grateful for what you already have. a roof over your head and meals on the table are blessings. start your list from there and keep counting.
- CALL AN UPBEAT FRIEND
we all have that friend that you can never get down, the one with endless amounts of energy and optimism. call that person. and call them daily if you need to. or call me. i’ll talk to you. =)
- DE-CLUTTER YOUR WORKSPACE
this is probably my favorite idea. i totally believe in the monumental power of tidying up your space and everything having a home. nothing gets me pumped up like cleaning and de-stashing.
- GET SOME SUN
as i mentioned earlier, sunshine=happiness. get outside and soak up some of that vitamin D. in as little as 10 minutes, you can feel the affects. find a spot for lunch each day to enjoy it.
- WATCH A FUNNY CLIP – BONUS POINTS FOR FAMILY CLIPS!
one of the best parts about a big family is having sisters with so many babies. i absolutely LOVE getting videos of my nieces and nephews! and when all else fails, google “babies laughing”.
- FAKE IT ‘TILL YOU MAKE IT
sometimes it’s more than just a “case of the mondays” and that’s when you have to trick your mind into believing that things are on 10, when they are a soft 4. keep smiling + have faith.
